Anxiety

Anxiety is something the vast majority of us experience at sometime in our life.  Anxiety can be brought on by a number of different things such as fear, worry, stress or it may even be brought on by “negative self talk” Over time Anxiety can build up and become overwhelming and may cause panic attacks to occur.

Panic Attacks

Panic attacks can happen suddenly without warning and often have little or no apparent reason, they can be extremely frightening, upsetting and uncomfortable. Panic attacks occur when high levels of anxiety causes your body to go into the “fight or flight response” where hormones such as adrenalin flood through your body so it can prepare to protect itself from perceived danger.

Panic attacks come on quickly and can last between 10- 20 minutes in some cases longer, you may feel that things are coming to an end that you are going mad or about to die. It’s important to remember that however frightening the symptoms are that this is not going to happen in fact panic attacks are not dangerous, what you are experiencing is your body preparing to protect itself from perceived danger.

Once you have had an panic attack you may fear the onset of another one therefore start avoiding particular situations or places which you believe triggers a panic attack. This causes more anxiety that can cause an increase in the amount of panic attacks you are having.
